At long last, I'm back

Well hello everybody.....Sorry I've been lax in writing on my blog, but I've been busy and quite honestly, I haven't thought much about my web site of late. I apologize.

Well, what a magnificent football season, to say the very least. The players and coaches did a magnificent job all season long and as a result, made our job on the network a good bit easier. It has long been said that you are a better broadcaster if the team you are working for wins. So, I thank everyone on the field for allowing Phil, Barry, Tom and I to have a great season of broadcasts.

I had a great time last weekend attending and MCing the big Bar-B-Que Cookoff at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa. The monies raised went to the football "A-Club" which is a group made up of all former Alabama football players, coaches, managers and trainers. It was a ton of fun seeing players and coaches from the 1940s through the just completed 2009 season. It was a wonderful reunion and a chance to make some great new friends. The Crimson Tide family is truly that......a family.

Now it's racing season and I'm just back from chilly, chilly Daytona. Had a good time there as always. Much of the fun is seeing everyone after a mid-winter break. MRN Radio has added to its schedule here in 2010 by picking up the broadcasts of the Grand-Am Series. Those are the exotic sports cars and GT cars that battle on the road courses of America. I will be anchoring most all of those broadcasts in addition to my NASCAR race broadcast responsibilities. I'll be very busy but I'm looking forward to the assignment. New drivers to learn, some new tracks to visit. It'll be fun. The first of our Grand-Am broadcasts will be from a track that I am quite familiar with, The Homestead-Miami Speedway in Homestead, Florida. The sports cars use both the NASCAR oval and the infield road course in a race that has a 2:45 time limit. I'll be working with Preston Root, Kurt Becker, Kim Hart and Tony Rizutti on the broadcast which is scheduled for March 6th.

On the restaurant front, my Italian restaurant in Pelham, Nino's, is doing quite well. The meals we are putting out are excellent, if I do say so myself. We are using the very best ingredients and the portions are "Eli sized". If you go home hungry, it's your fault not ours. My partner Walter Caron is the man who makes the restaurant work. He makes by hand anything that we can possibly make. He makes our own dough. He makes every single sauce from scratch. He makes our meatballs. Really, anything that we can make ourselves, Walter makes. Our desserts are all home made from scratch by a woman who lives in the neighborhood right behind the restaurant. Come join us if you are in the area. Nino's is on Hwy 31 South in Pelham just 4.7 miles south of the Galleria. Our web site which has a complete printable menu is www.ninos-pelham.com .
Oh and by the way, some folks have said that they didn't know if they'd be welcome at Nino's because the weren't Alabama fans. Please note that although I am the "voice" of the Tide, my partner Walter is an Auburn fan and we have restaurant "regulars" who support just about every team imaginable. Don't let your support of a given sports team stop you from enjoying our great food. Regardless of who you pull for, you are most welcome at Nino's.

Well that's it for today. Time to catch up on the Olympics. I just love the Curling. I promise to update the blog again soon.

Take care.

Eli
